ARS Eastern USA Appeals to Eastern USA Communities to Come to Aid of Besieged Iraqi Armenian Community
The ARS Eastern USA Board of Regional Directors issues this urgent appeal for all Eastern United States Armenian communities to come to the financial aid of the besieged Iraqi Armenian community.
It is well know that recent events in Iraq have caused a major upheaval in the lives of that country's civilian population. This upheaval has, of course, impacted our 20,000 to 30,000 Armenian brothers and sisters in Iraq who have been living under dire conditions for many years, conditions which have only worsened with the recent war in Iraq and subsequent ongoing political changes.
In light of this, the international ARS Inc. has called upon its ARS regions around the world to join in an effort to come to the aid of the Armenian communities of Iraq. The Armenians of Iraq are mostly located in Baghdad, but are also located in Kirkuk, Zakho, Mosul, and Basra.
Although many ARS Eastern USA local chapters will be engaged in fundraising efforts for the Armenians of Iraq, donations may also be sent directly to the ARS Eastern USA Regional Office. Checks should be made payable to “ARS Eastern USA” and “Iraqi Armenian Relief” should be inserted in the check’s memo line. The ARS Eastern USA will collect all funds received from its ARS Eastern USA chapters and donors donating directly to our Regional Office and transmit these funds to the ARS Inc. for distribution in Iraq.
The ARS Eastern USA Board of Regional Directors thanks our communities in advance for their anticipated attention to and support of this urgent appeal. Donations should be mailed to ARS Eastern USA Regional Office, 80 Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA 02472. For more information, call the Regional Office at (617) 926-3801 or e-mail the Regional Office at arseastus@aol.com.
